Application of a procedure to evaluate the impacts of projects at the University of Camagüey; Cuba

The study evaluates the impacts of the outcomes of the project Information Resources Management in Organizations (GRIO), conducted within the Information Science program at the University of Camagüey, Cuba. An applied, evaluative study was carried out using a mixed-methods approach, a non-experimental design, and a retrospective case study covering the period 2020–2025. Procedures for identifying, describing, and assessing impacts were implemented through document analysis, surveys, interviews, and the examination of bibliometric and altmetric indicators. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and source triangulation, considering dimensions related to scientific and social impacts. Positive effects were identified in the improvement of document and knowledge management, the development of professional competencies, the creation of employment opportunities, and the strengthening of institutional collaboration. Satisfaction indices ranged from 0.75 to 0.85. Scientific outputs and institutional recognitions were also documented; however, limitations were identified regarding publication visibility, student participation, and the dissemination and application of project outcomes in other organizations. The study concludes that the procedures enabled the systematic identification and assessment of the effects associated with the GRIO project's outcomes, the recognition of strengths and limitations, and the formulation of improvement actions. This experience provides a methodological reference for future impact assessments of university research projects.
