Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors associated with the international emigration of Ecuadorian women. It seeks to examine the conditions of vulnerability they often face, as well as access to rights and institutional responses that influence the protection of their human rights in destination countries. A mixed-methods study was conducted, based on a documentary review of secondary sources. The study made it possible to identify the main receiving countries and to examine the conditions of vulnerability associated with Ecuadorian female mobility. The findings showed that Ecuadorian migrant women abroad face barriers in accessing basic services, precarious labor conditions, discrimination, gender-based violence, and limited legal and social protection. Although many have managed to enter productive activities, this incorporation has frequently taken place in contexts of informality and limited guarantees. Relevant differences were also observed according to the country of destination, which demonstrates the need for contextualized and gender-sensitive policy responses. The study confirms that national and international policies have had only partial effectiveness in protecting the rights of Ecuadorian migrant women. It recommends strengthening educational programs, legal counseling, protection networks, and comprehensive support mechanisms. The novelty of the study lies in updating the Ecuadorian migration landscape from a gender perspective, recognizing women as active subjects of the migration process.
