The incorporation of haptic simulators, virtual reality, and three-dimensional resources has expanded the possibilities for preclinical training in dentistry by enabling repeated practice in controlled environments with immediate feedback. This article synthesizes the available evidence on the use of these technologies in dental education, with emphasis on the development of clinical competencies, their benefits, limitations, and potential for curricular integration. A systematic review was conducted and reported in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, considering publications from 2015 to 2025. Following the identification, screening, and eligibility process, 14 studies were included. Information was organized using a data extraction matrix and integrated through narrative and thematic synthesis. The evidence showed that simulation supports the development of psychomotor skills, technical abilities, spatial understanding, self-efficacy, communication, and preclinical learning. Haptic systems were particularly notable for reproducing tactile sensations and facilitating repeated practice. However, limitations were identified regarding costs, technological realism, methodological heterogeneity, curricular integration, and the limited evidence on transfer to real clinical performance. It is concluded that simulators are valuable complementary resources for dental education, but they do not replace clinical practice or faculty supervision. Their curricular incorporation requires pedagogical planning and stronger longitudinal and comparative evidence.
