Policy for the use of AI-assisted technologies
Revista San Gregorio recognizes the impact of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies on academic research and scientific communication. In this regard, the journal establishes the following policy to regulate its use in the preparation, review, and publication of scientific articles, ensuring academic integrity, transparency, and compliance with ethical standards.
The use of generative AI tools and AI-assisted technologies is acceptable under the following conditions:
- Writing and editing assistance: Authors may use AI to enhance text clarity, optimize grammar, or translate documents; however, the final content must be reviewed and validated by the authors.
- Data analysis and information processing: AI may be used for statistical analysis, data mining, text classification, or systematic review support, provided that the tools used and methods applied are properly cited.
- Reference and citation generation: AI-powered reference managers may be used, but authors must verify the accuracy of generated citations before submission.
Restrictions on AI Use
To uphold the principles of originality and research ethics, the following uses are strictly prohibited:
- Using AI to generate academic content without human supervision: Articles in which AI has been used to create substantive sections of the text without the author's intervention and validation will not be accepted.
- Using AI to fabricate or manipulate data: Any attempt to falsify data, generate non-existent citations, or manipulate information will be considered a serious breach of academic ethics.
- Incorrect attribution of authorship: AI cannot be considered an author or co-author of an article, as it cannot assume responsibility for the generated content.
To ensure transparency, authors must declare in the "Methodology" or "Acknowledgments" section if they have used generative AI at any stage of the research or writing process, specifying:
- Tools used (ChatGPT, Bard, DALL·E, Grammarly, etc.).
- Purpose of AI use (text editing, data processing, summary generation, etc.).
Authors are fully responsible for the content presented in their manuscripts, even if AI has been used at any stage of the process. They are expected to:
- Review and validate all AI-generated information before submission.
- Avoid excessive reliance on AI tools for intellectual production.
- Comply with academic integrity and research ethics standards.
Failure to comply with this policy may result in:
- Additional manuscript review to verify originality.
- Rejection of the article if improper AI use is detected.
"This policy will be periodically reviewed to adapt to technological advancements and best practices in academic publishing."
