Guidelines for Authors

GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS

Articles will be submitted through the OJS (Open Journal Systems) platform, where they will be processed, and the author registers the document considering the following requirements:

• The submission file must be in Microsoft Word format.
• The metadata of all authors who worked on the article must be registered, including full names, institutional affiliations, email addresses, and ORCID codes.
• It must be declared that the submission has not been previously published nor submitted to another journal, using an originality certificate, which can be downloaded from the following link: Download template.
• If the article is approved for publication, a copyright transfer certificate signed by all authors must be submitted to Revista San Gregorio. The template for this certificate can be downloaded from the following link: Download template.
• There must be no disputes between co-authors in multi-author articles. In cases of multiple authorship (four or more authors), a PDF document signed by all authors must be sent to revista@sangregorio.edu.ec, justifying the inclusion of each author based on their contribution to the article.
• Whenever possible, DOI identifiers should be provided, and if not available, URLs for references to websites must be included.

FORMATTING GUIDELINES

• Letter-size paper (21.59 cm x 27.94 cm (8 1/2” x 11”)); 2.54 cm margins on all sides.
• Times New Roman font, size 12pt; left-aligned paragraphs without indentation, 1.5 cm line spacing, and no spacing between paragraphs. Italics should be used instead of underlining (except for URLs).
• Every word requiring an accent or diaeresis must follow proper orthographic rules, even in uppercase.
• When referring to organizations, they should be cited in their original language followed by the acronym in parentheses, and the Spanish translation should be included if necessary.
• For citing references within the text, APA 7th edition guidelines should be followed. Footnotes for citations are not accepted.
• Footnotes should only be used to clarify a small part of the text, not for citations. They should be in 10-point font and not exceed 5 lines (40 words); if they exceed this limit, the content should be explained in the body of the text. Up to 5 footnotes are permitted.
• Photographs, graphics, diagrams, illustrations, maps, and other elements should be referred to and labeled as Figures.
• All tables, figures, and appendices must be referenced in the text before their presentation.
• Tables and figures should be placed in appropriate locations following the text that refers to them.
• Table titles should be placed above the table, and figure titles should be placed below the figure.
• Titles and sources must be clear and concise, and the information must aid in understanding.
• A maximum of six figures or tables will be accepted.
• Figures and tables must be fully legible and of adequate quality for presentation.

ARTICLE SECTIONS

FIRST PAGE
It must contain the following sections:

• Title. In Spanish and English, lowercase. Center-aligned. It should not exceed 15 words and should accurately reflect the content of the article.
• Author(s) information. Lowercase, left-aligned. Full names, academic degrees, institutional affiliation (e.g., Universidad San Gregorio de Portoviejo, Manabí, Ecuador), email, and ORCID must be included.
• Abstract in Spanish. Written in one paragraph, it should not exceed 250 words and must include the introduction, objectives, methodology, key findings, and conclusions. It should be written impersonally, e.g., "This study analyzes..." or "In this study, it is analyzed..."
• Abstract in English. Written in one paragraph, it should not exceed 250 words and must reflect the same content as the abstract in Spanish. The translation should be well-styled, avoiding automatic translators. The same applies to the title and keywords.
• Keywords in Spanish and English. Between three and six words or phrases, listed alphabetically and separated by semicolons (;). They should be presented in both Spanish and English.

ARTICLE BODY
It must contain the following sections, all of them left-aligned, in bold, and lowercase:

• Introduction. It should clarify the background, foundation, and purpose of the study, objectives, and problem addressed, using bibliographic citations and reviewing the most significant literature on the topic, both nationally and internationally.
• Methodology. It should be presented with sufficient clarity and detail to allow another researcher to replicate the study. The sample and sampling strategies should be described, and the type of statistical analysis employed should be referenced.
• Results. Data should be presented clearly and concisely. There should be no redundancy between the text, tables, and figures. The analysis should be consistent with the type of data, which must be well-executed and interpreted.
• Discussion. Results should be framed within the research presented in the introduction. Literature should be appropriately handled, with sufficient and proper citations.

Note: If the author deems it appropriate, they may present and discuss the results in an integrated section titled "Results and Discussion."

• Conclusions. They should be clearly written and related to the objectives, as well as the interpretation and discussion of the results.

References.
All works cited in the text must appear in the reference section, in alphabetical order, and wherever possible, URLs for web references should be provided. The APA 7th edition citation system should be followed (APA guide).

It is recommended to use reference managers such as Zotero (download Zotero) or Mendeley (download Mendeley).

TYPES OF WORKS THAT CAN BE SUBMITTED

Submissions to the journal must be original and not previously published in any medium or in the process of being published. The authors are fully responsible for ensuring compliance with this rule. The types of submissions accepted by the journal are:

• Original scientific research articles: These present, in detail and with evidence, the original results of completed research projects. In general, the structure should contain four basic and mandatory sections: introduction, methodology, results, and discussion, and conclusions. The length should not exceed 5000 words, with a minimum of 18 references.
• Position or reflection articles: These are metainvestigation documents on a specific topic, presenting theoretical elaborations, critical interpretations, and conceptualizations related to epistemological aspects or methodological constructs derived from completed research. The length should not exceed 5000 words, with a minimum of 18 references.
• Review articles: These present state-of-the-art or exhaustive reviews, outlining advances and trends in a field of knowledge, a specific topic, or a particular problem. They are characterized by a careful bibliographic review, based on a systematic process of selection and analysis of texts, with a significant and relevant number of references to research and theoretical works. The length should not exceed 6000 words, with a minimum of 30 references.
• Case studies: These describe the results of a study on a particular situation, presenting technical and methodological experiences and the material obtained from working with an individual, organization, or specific situation to describe a problem or indicate how to solve it. It includes a systematic literature review of similar cases. It is important that the case is described in detail, followed by a discussion. The length should not exceed 4000 words, with a minimum of 18 references.
• Systematization of professional practices: These articles allow the construction and clarification of knowledge generated or being generated in a specific experience by different subjects, through the analysis and evaluation of the actions taken. The length should not exceed 4000 words, with a minimum of 15 references.

The decisions of the Scientific Committee will be respected by the Editorial Board and the author(s), provided they do not attempt to change the content expressed by the author(s). In the latter case, the author(s) must communicate their position to the Editorial Board with a reasoned and validly supported report. The final decision regarding publication will be based on the majority opinion of the Editorial Board.
